Berna Achieving Success with Spartans #22-ranked Soccer Team

The University of Dubuque women’s soccer team achieved a level of success Head Coach Jason Berna has been striving for since he started the varsity program for the Spartans in 2001. Wednesday morning the Spartans earned their first ever, national ranking in Division III when the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) released their Sept. 9 poll with the Spartans ranked #22 nationally. UD also earned their highest regional ranking with a #2 ranking in the North Region.

The University of Dubuque men's soccer battled back from a 0-2 deficit on Wednesday night in the first half of action to knot the game at 2-2 in the second half against the host UW-Whitewater Warhawks in a windy and slight rainy evening in Wisconsin. The two teams fought through two overtimes as the Spartans goal keeper Riley Jensen stoppped all four shot on goal attempts in the final 20 minutes of the pair of overtimes. Jensen played all 110 minutes in goal and collected 10 saves on the road.

Martinez Remains Perfect at #1 Singles

The University of Dubuque women's tennis team dropped an Iowa Conference dual to Wartburg College 1-8 on Wednesday afternoon on Frank Farber Tennis Courts. Freshman Arantxa Martinez improved her #1 singles record to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in league play with a victory over the Knights Katherine Ross by a score of 6-3, 6-0.

Fabiola Ortiz Captures First Career IIAC Performer of the Week

Her ascension up the ranks was courtesy of a personal 6k record of 23:54 at the Central Dutch Invitational this past Saturday.

The University of Dubuque football team would like to wake up and start again after their 2014 season opener finished in favor of the UW-La Crosse Eagles 8-24 on Saturday night. The Spartans stumbled early and coughed up the football in their first three possessions in a combined 1:28 of possession. The six Spartans' turnovers were more than they could overcome as the Pioneers spotted the ball inside of the UD 35 yardline in four out of their first five possessions.

The University of Dubuque played host on Tuesday to a tripleheader with UW-Oshkosh and Edgewood College in Stoltz Sports Center. UD opened the night with a 1-3 loss to UW-Oshkosh, but rallied in the nightcap to lose a heartbreaking five set match 2-3 to Edgewood. Edgewood lost a five set match to undefeated UW-Oshkosh (6-0 overall) by score of 2-3.
