v Dominican at home

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Kelsey Graefen and Kyleigh McLaughlin scored less than eight minutes apart in the second half to carry the University of Dubuque women’s soccer team to a 2-0 win over Dominican University.

It was another scoreless first half for the Spartans (6-0) despite a 6-3 shot advantage but it gave way to an opportunistic second half. Corner kick specialist Melissa Sawyer got the ball rolling with a 67th minute corner lob that set up Graefen's header for her second goal of the year and first score of the game. After leading the team in assists with three, it was McLaughlin’s time to shine as she netted her first goal of the year in the 75th minute. UD would finish the contest with 14 shots to Dominican University’s seven with Tiffany Duncan saving six of those.

With their win over Dominican University (3-1), the Spartans match their 6-0 start to begin 2013. Only this time, four of those wins have come on the road. They have not surrendered a goal in three straight games and are outscoring opponents, 17-2.

The Spartans will square off in a challenging home match against UW-Oshkosh on Saturday, September 13th at 1:00 p.m.
