Men’s Soccer Can't Overcome Quick Strike by MSOE

Sep 7, 2014

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque men’s soccer team couldn’t avenge the Milwaukee School of Engineering goal seven minutes into the game as they fell, 1-0, on Saturday at Oyen Field.

A simple play by MSOE (3-1) turned into a deadly result with the ball reaching the back of the net after a headed pass off the inbounds throw. It would hold for the next 83 minutes despite UD (1-2-1) holding a 12-7 shot advantage over the course of the game.

Leo Lenth led the team in shots with three but worked his magic and used his teammates to create multiple opportunities throughout. As a result the MSOE goalkeeper Farin tallied five saves but it seemed as if the Spartans’ best opportunities came on shots that were just off the mark. Give credit to MSOE goalie Farin after an outstanding save off a Jose Alonso Guerrero laser saved MSOE from an overtime affair.

This result will likely add some fuel for the fire as they look to secure Oyen Field’s first victory on the new turf. The Spartans return to the pitch September 10 at UW-Whitewater at 7:00 p.m.
