Second Half Barrage Lends Itself to Dominant Women’s Soccer Win

DUBUQUE, Iowa – A slow start didn’t derail the game plan of the University of Dubuque women’s soccer team as the offense produced three second-half goals in 3-0 rout of Carroll University.
The Spartans (5-0) goal-scoring machine, Katie Lynn, got the offense going after torching the back of the net less than 10 minutes into the second half. Her fifth goal of the year sparked a fire in freshman Emily Meeker as she rang in the first goal of her career two minutes later. After an empty first half that saw seven shots and five corner kicks the Spartans were back in business.
Despite a solid first half, Carroll (0-3) couldn’t overcome the 2-0 deficit and 12-1 second half shot advantage enjoyed by the Spartans. Megan Siepler, who earlier assisted on Meeker’s goal, put any thought of a comeback to rest with an insurance goal at the 80th minute.
UD outshot Carroll 19-5 but a few breaks here or there for Carroll could have changed the course of the game. They’re first shot attempt of the game caromed off the cross bar and four of their five shots were on target. Reigning Iowa Conference women’s soccer defensive performer of the week Tiffany Duncan saved all four.
The Spartans have outscored their opponents, 15-2, in their undefeated non-conference slate.
They will put their unblemished record on the line at Dominican University in Chicago this Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
