UD Pursues Opening the First New Medical School in Iowa in Over 125 Years

The University of Dubuque is officially moving forward with the required approvals and programmatic accreditation process to open a four-year medical school. In recognition of a $60 million gift from John (DHL'17) and Alice (DHL'17) Butler - one of the largest donations to UD in its 172-year history - the new college will be named after the Butler family.

Spartans of UDTatum Levendahl

Tatum Levendahl, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, is a sophomore environmental science major. A dedicated student, she maintains a busy schedule outside of the classroom as a CREATE (Connecting Research, Experiences, and Application to Engagement) fellow and a member of the women's wrestling team, Jazz Band, and newly formed student organization Earth Advocates. In 2024, Tatum received the Wendt Character Athlete award for women's wrestling.
