With 18 years of experience, I have worked as a nurse in diverse settings. I began my nursing career in homecare and case management before joining the Air Force as an Active Duty Officer in 2010. During my 10 years in the Air Force, I specialized as a Labor and Delivery Nurse and served as a Women's Health Clinic Nurse Manager. In 2020, I transitioned to a career in academia.

Academia Interest:
I have a strong passion for leadership in nursing academia. My research is focused on nursing faculty orientation, retention, organizational commitment, and student success. With a robust background in women's health and obstetrics, I am committed to researching topics relevant to this area.

Personal:
My husband and I love exploring the world with our daughter and son. So far, we have visited over 20 countries. When we're not traveling, you can find us at sporting events, whether it's cheering on our kids, the Hawkeyes, or the Kansas City Chiefs.

Dr. Annalee Ward directed the Wendt Character Initiative from 2012-2024. In the summer of 2024, Dr. Ward retired and was granted the title of Director Emerita.

Liza Johnson, Ed.D., was selected as the Director of the Wendt Character Initiative at the University of Dubuque in the spring of 2024. Johnson came to the University of Dubuque in 2011 as an associate director of career services. She was promoted to director of personal empowerment and assistant director to the president in 2014. In that position, Johnson worked towards enhancing a comprehensive personal empowerment program that aligns with UD's mission, vision, and goals. Academia Interest:
I have a strong interest in debriefing for simulation. Simulation is a strong teaching tool and debriefing in meaningful ways enriches the learning experience. I also enjoy creating diverse teaching tools that include other disciplines across campus.

Noah bullock was born and raised in Dubuque, IA. He went to Dubuque Senior High School and later attended the University of Dubuque (C'21). He majored in digital art, thus igniting his love for art history. Over the course of his time at the University, Noah was named College Photographer of the Year two years in a row ('17, '18). He was the President of the photography club and still has an important influence in the program today. Dr. Vyverberg joined the University of Dubuque as an adjunct instructor in 2018, and then joined the UDPA program full time as an assistant professor in 2020. She currently teaches the physiology and pharmacology course series within the UDPA program. She earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy in 2009. She has practiced as a community pharmacist in the tristate area since 2009. Emily is actively involved with several local non-profit organizations in the Dubuque community. After a national search, the University of Dubuque has announced that Nelson Edmonds, who currently serves as Dean of Student Engagement and Services, will become Vice President of Student Engagement and Intercollegiate Athletics. Edmonds will succeed Dan Runkle, who served as Director of Athletics for nearly 20 years. Runkle will begin his new role in the Office of Advancement on July 1, 2022.

"As the search committee worked its way through the national search process, and as we identified opportunities and challenges facing our intercollegiate athletic program and our University, it became increasingly clear to me that our ideal candidate was already a valued member of our team," according to Jeffrey Bullock, President of the University. "We had a talented group of finalists, any one of which would have done a good job for us. However, as an established leader and a trusted colleague, I believe that Nelson has the ability to make a bigger impact even more quickly, and to build upon the significant achievements of outgoing Athletic Director, Dan Runkle."

Edmonds joined UD in 2018 as the Dean of Student Engagement and Services. He led the Office of Student Life which houses the offices of Vocation, Career Services, and Community Engagement, Multicultural Student Engagement, Student Activities, First Year Experience, International Student Services and Study Abroad. He is a member of the President's Cabinet and was a volunteer coach on the Spartans football team.

Edmonds attended the United States Naval Academy, Northern Michigan University, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater with a Bachelor of Science in English and a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction. He is currently working on his EdD.

He previously coached at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for nearly 20 years. His duties during this time included coaching running backs and offensive line, and serving as special teams coordinator. During his time at UW-Whitewater, he was part of 11 conference championship teams, and six teams who played for a national championship-winning four. Edmonds coached 28 all-conference players, 10 all-American players, seven of the Top-ten career rushing leaders, and one Gagliardi trophy winner during his time at UW-W. Recently, Edmonds coached Dwayne Allen Jr., Maurece Herrion, and Kordell Stillmunkes to All-Conference accolades for UD.

The Spartans are coming off one of their most successful seasons in school history with American Rivers Conference titles in women's golf, men's soccer, men's basketball, softball, men's outdoor track and field, and in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference, a men's lacrosse championship. UD finished the Marjorie Giles Women's All-Sports Trophy in third place with 45 points. The Spartans earned a third-place finish in the Elmer Hertel Men's All-Sports Trophy with 49.4 points. With all 19 American Rivers Conference Championships decided, UD finished third overall with 14 points in 2021-22.

He is married to Amy Edmonds, who serves as the University's Vice President for Operations. They have two daughters, Alisandra and Matiana.

I have worked for over 30 years in many different healthcare settings. My clinical practice includes inpatient experience in a rural critical access hospital, as well as in urban obstetric units. I have also worked in a variety of community-based settings including a county public health agency where my practice included service to children, the elderly, and those with brain health issues. I also served as the administrator of a school-based youth services program, and the director of a hospital-based home health and hospice program.

Research Interest:
My areas of research interest are social determinants of health in primary care settings and support for clinical adjunct nursing faculty.

Areas of nursing practice:
My nursing practice backgrounds include Adult Medical Surgical, Pediatric and Adolescent Oncology, Pediatric ICU, General Pediatrics, Skilled/LTC, Chronic Mental Health as well as in Newborn/Obstetrical units. I continue to practice part-time in the summers in diverse camp settings which serve both well and high acuity special needs pediatric campers as well as in a local community-based LTC/Skilled Care/Chronic Mental Health unit.

Areas of Nursing Education work:
My Nursing Education work includes serving as Chair of Nursing in two undergraduate Baccalaureate Nursing Programs. I have also taught classroom theory courses in Mental Health nursing, Adult Med/Surg, OB, Peds, Fundamentals, RN to BSN, Leadership, Community Health, Nursing Issues, and in various NCLEX review courses. I have taught nursing students in clinical hospital-based courses in the areas of Mental Health, Pediatrics, Obstetrical, Medical Surgical, Skilled Care, and in diverse Community Health areas as well. I have also taught a travel abroad course to Korea where we studied child abuse reporting policy differences between Korea and the US.

Research Interests:
My areas of research center in Organizational Trust, Conflict, Empowerment, and in diverse Camp Nursing phenomenon. I also have a strong research interest in the areas of nursing accreditation and regulation.

Something personal:
I am married to my wonderful husband, Bob, for over 30 years. We are blessed to have two wonderful adult sons. I love to bike, boat, read, and spend time visiting with family and friends as well as walking our beautiful German Shepard, Tuck.

Rachel Rokser joined the University of Dubuque in April 2021 and is an Assistant Professor, Clinical Coordinator, and Capstone Course Director of the UDPA program. She earned her Bachelor of Science and Master of Physician Assistant Studies from Marquette University in 2007 and 2008. She worked clinically as a Physician Assistant in Internal Medicine (inpatient and outpatient) and subsequently in Vaccine Research at Johns Hopkins University's Center for Immunization Research (CIR) since 2018 where she was a Physician Assistant Manager and Lead Clinical Coordinator on Phase I-III Vaccine Clinical trials. Rachel continues her passion for vaccine research working remotely for the CIR. She enjoys trail running, boating and spending time with her husband, Adam, and daughter.
