Women's Tennis Open Court with Road Victory

The University of Dubuque women's tennis team swept host Ripon College by a 9-0 mark on Saturday afternoon. The Spartan opned by winning all three doubles matches: Ashley Schlueter/Arantxa Martinez won #1 doubles 8-1, #2 doubles of Mariah Scott/Taylor Fortmann won in extra sets 9-7, and #3 doubles of Stephanie LoCasto/Marissa Rutenbeck captured the doubles sweep with a 8-0 match.

Volleyball Opening Weekend at St. Mary's Sugarloaf Classic

The University of Dubuque opened the second day of the Sugarloaf Classic with a hard fought 1-3 loss to Gustavus Adolphus College. The Spartans jumped out quickly and captured the opening set 25-20, before Gustavus rallied back to capture the next three by scores of 25-16, 25-23, and 25-15. In set three the lead swapped six times and match was tied another eight times. In the final match of the tournament, the Spartans faced UW-La Crosse and lost another close battle 0-3 by set scores of 18-25, 19-25, and 23-25 with 10 lead changes and a tie score 21 times.

Spartans Outdueled by UW-Superior in Hotly Contested Match

It was a standoff from the outset but UW-Superior ultimately pulled away from the University of Dubuque men’s soccer team, 2-1, in the second half of a competitive bout.

Solid Start for Spartan Harriers at Mustang Gallop

An early weather delay at the 21st annual Mt. Mercy Mustang Gallop didn’t faze the University of Dubuque men’s and women’s cross country teams as they placed third and fourth, respectively. UD men tallied 110 and the UD women totaled 75 points. Youth played its hand for both sides as just three seniors completed the race between both genders. Nine out of the 14 combined varsity finishers were sophomores or younger.

The Spartans picked tied for #3 in the Iowa Conference pre-season poll and return 10 starters and 24 letterwinners from last season's 16-5-0 team. Spartans Men's Golf Open Season in Wisconsin

The University of Dubuque and reigning Iowa Conference Men's Golf Champions, opened their season this weekend at the 2014 Culvers Edgewood Fall Classic at the Glen Erin Golf Club (Par 71). UD in the first round of 2014-15 finished with a score of 316 in the opening day and rallied to shoot a round of 304 on day two for a weekend total of 620 for seventh place.

Opening Night Victory for Men's Soccer

The University of Dubuque men's soccer used nearly the whole bench on Friday night with 20 student-athletes seeing playing time while enjoying the fall weather en route to a 3-1 opening night road victory. Brandon Wiley, Andrew Guelle and Gonzalo Hernandez all scored goals and teammate Leo Lenth captured the lone assist in the win.

Spartans Football Picked Among IIAC Contenders

The University of Dubuque football is optimistic for the 2014 season to begin after being selected among the top contenders of the Iowa Conference pre-season poll. The Spartans are looking to avenge three Iowa Conference losses where they lost leads in a combined 1:47 in three heartbreaking defeats in 2013. Head coach Stan Zweifel will be looking to the strength of his defense, which returns nine starters and an offense which returns 74% of the receiving corps for success in 2014.

UD Presents African-Caribbean-Latino Festival

Ravenell and Rutenbeck Named D3 Classic Preseason Super Seniors

A pair of Spartans have been honored among the D3 Senior Classic Preseason Super Senior Watchlist is presented by the Collegiate Development Football League (CDFL). The University of Dubuue Spartan student-athletes Dominique Ravenell and Tyler Rutenbeck were selected for UD. Rutenbeck was named to the North Offense Second Team and Ravenell was chosen as an Honorable Mention for the Spartans. The pair were among five Iowa Conference student-athletes named to the list.

Spartans Share Love of American Football with Frenchman

The University of Dubuque football team will have a special guest on the sidelines when they return to practice this week. Joining the Spartans on the sideline is special guest coach from the Touluse Bears team in France. The Spartans traveled abroad this spring and played the Bears, sharing American football with thousands of fans in France. Florian Perget (offensive coordinator) was so impressed with the University of Dubuque football team he made plans to join them for pre-season camp this week.

UD Heritage Center Open House Slated for August 4
