Spartans Fall 85-66 to UNI

The University of Dubuque Men's Basketball team looks to be among the best in Division III in 2013-14. On Friday night, they played one of the top Mid-Majors in Division I in the University of Northern Iowa (UNI). The Spartans lost to UNI 85-66 in the Exhibition Game at the McLeod Center in front of 3,278 fans. Chris Frazier and Lucas Ware led UD in scoring with 15 points each.

UD Fall Theatre Production Focuses on Alzheimer’s Caregivers

The University of Dubuque Department of Fine & Performing Arts and the UD Drama Club will present The Forgiving and The Forgetting written by UD Theatre Professor Amy Ressler with Jade Angelica, founder and director of Healing Moments Alzheimer’s Ministry. With original music and lyrics by songwriter Karen Buechele, this original drama tells the story of two siblings whose mother has Alzheimer’s Disease. An especially relevant work for caregivers of persons with dementia, the play will be a featured part of the November 7 Alzheimer’s Association conference on the University of Dubuque campus. There will also be post-show discussions with the actors and the writers after each evening performance.

Spartans Earn #5 Seed in IIAC Tourney

The University of Dubuque volleyball team overcame a pressure situation on Wednesday night. The Spartans captured set one 25-19 before losing the following two matches (21-25, 22-25). Facing a near end of their conference season, the Spartans responded by taking the fourth set 25-21 and carrying the momentum into the fifth set where they captured the match and the set with a 15-13 score.

Spartans Ready for IIAC Tournament

The University of Dubuque Men’s Soccer team will be forced to make a return trip to Simpson after losing 3-0 on Tuesday night. The loss makes the Spartans the five seed in the upcoming Iowa Conference Tournament and will face the fourth seeded Storm. UD finished the regular season with a 6-10-1 overall record and 3-4 in the Iowa Conference.

Spartans Finish Regular Season at 14-4

The University of Dubuque Women’s Soccer team wrapped up the regular season with a 1-0 win against Simpson on Tuesday afternoon. The victory was the fourth straight for the Spartans. Alexandra Watkins game winning goal was the 12th of her career, tying a school record. Dubuque finished the regular season with a 14-4-0 record and tied for second place in the Iowa Conference at 5-2.

Graefen Named Iowa Conference Performer of the Week

University of Dubuque junior Kelsey Graefen (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) was named IIAC Women’s Soccer (Defensive) Performer of the Week. Graefen scored the game winning goal on a header against Carthage. The Spartans did not allow a goal last week.

Winkler with Hat Trick in Senior Day Win

The University of Dubuque Men's Soccer team continued its strong finish to the 2013 regular season with a 4-0 victory against Buena Vista. The Spartans have won four of their last five games while outscoring their opponents 10-4 in those games. Senior Cory Winkler scored three goals on Senior Day.

The University of Dubuque Spartans were looking to remain unbeaten in Iowa Conference play on Saturday, but the visiting Wartburg College Knights scored on a 17 yard pass play with :35 seconds left of the game to take the lead and the victory by a 22-15 score.

Spartans Score Six Goals on Senior Day

The University of Dubuque Women's Soccer team left little doubt that they would be celebrating a victory on Senior Day. The Spartans came away with a 6-0 victory over Buena Vista on Saturday afternoon at Oyen Field. UD held a 33-3 advantage in shots for the game including a 19-1 lead in the first period.

UD Wrestling Ranked 25th in NWCA Coaches Poll

The University of Dubuque Wrestling team is ranked 25th in the NWCA Preseason D-III Poll. The Spartans are coming off a 2012-13 season in which they finished with a 10-8 overall record and tied for third place in the IIAC at 4-3. UD returns three National Qualifiers and four All-Iowa Conference honorees.

Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago Executive, William Testa, to Speak at UD

On Wednesday, November 6, the University of Dubuque will host Dr. William Testa of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago for a public lecture titled The Midwest Economy: Past and Future. Testa’s presentation will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Charles and Romona Myers Center Auditorium (Room 146), and is free and open to the public.

The University of Dubuque Men's Soccer team bounced back after a tough loss on Saturday against #14 Wartburg with a 2-1 victory over North Central College (6-6-3). The Spartans victory against NCC came as a result of two second half goals and numerous spectacular stops by the Dubuque defense.

The University of Dubuque Women's Soccer team came out on top in a match-up of regionally ranked teams on Tuesday afternoon. The Spartans 1-0 win against Carthage College set a school record for home wins in a single season with eight victories. UD finished with a 22-14 advantage in shots.

UD to Host Streamlines Conference

On Saturday, November 9, The University of Dubuque will host the sixth annual Streamlines: An Undergraduate Conference Celebrating Language, Literature, and Writing. The event will be held in the new Heritage Center on the University of Dubuque campus. Iowa’s Poet Laureate, Mary Swander, will deliver this year’s keynote address, beginning at 1:30 p.m. in Butler Hall. The keynote address will be free and open to the public for the first time in Streamlines history.

Spartans Receive Votes in D3football Top 25 and Coaches Poll

The University of Dubuque Football team is beginning to receive national recognition in the polls after their 38-14 win over previously unbeaten Coe College. UD received 14 votes in the D3football Top 25 for Week 7 and 13 votes in the AFCA Division III Coaches Poll. The Spartans are off to a 4-2 start and sit atop the Iowa Conference at 3-0.

Bradshaw Named Iowa Conference Male Athlete of the Week

University of Dubuque senior Bryan Bradshaw was named Iowa Conference Male Athlete of the Week and IIAC Football (Offensive) Performer of the Week. Bradshaw completed 17 of 26 passes for 311 yards and five touchdowns in the Spartans 38-14 victory over previously unbeaten Coe College.

Six Spartans PR at Dr. Tucker Invite

The University of Dubuque Women's Cross Country team found its stride on Friday afternoon at the Dr. Tucker Invitational hosted by Loras College. Running at the Dubuque Soccer Complex, six of seven UD runners finished with new personal record times at 6,000 meters. Rachel Busjahn paced the Spartans in 18th place at 24:20.5, the ninth fastest time in UD history.
