Six Spartans PR at Dr. Tucker Invite

DUBUQUE, IOWA - The University of Dubuque Women's Cross Country team found its stride on Friday afternoon at the Dr. Tucker Invitational hosted by Loras College. Running at the Dubuque Soccer Complex, six of seven UD runners finished with new personal record times at 6,000 meters. Rachel Busjahn (Sobieski, Wis./Pulaski) paced the Spartans in 18th place at 24:20.5, the ninth fastest time in UD history. As a team, Dubuque finished fourth of five teams. 

Busjahn was the first Spartan across the finish line as she improved on her PR by 20.6 seconds, which was set last week. Fabiola Ortiz (Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) finished in 22nd place at 24:28.2, good for the tenth best time in school history. Ortiz had the largest improvement of any Spartan with a 45.9 second improvement on her previous fastest time. 

Brenda Nava (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) took 30th overall at 24:57.8. Finishing right behind Nava was Sam Holen (Rockford, Ill./Rockford Lutheran) in 31st at 25:07.1, a 18.5 second improvement on her PR. Kiersten Wenthold (Fort Atkinson, Iowa/South Winn.) was the final UD scorer with a time of 25:45.4 in 41st place. 

Madison Montgomery (Monona, Iowa/MFL Mar-Mac) and Melissa Todman (San Antonio, Texas/Ramstein) also set new personal records in the six and seven sports for the Spartans.

UP NEXT: The Spartans will compete at the Iowa Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 2nd. Start time for the women's race at the Central College XC Course is 11:00 am.
