Your role as a parent/guardian has had an impact on the vocational path of your student. Through collaboration with the Office of Vocation, Career Services, and Community Engagement, together we can support your student on their vocational journey.

Q: When can a student start meeting with the professional staff of the Office of Vocation, Career Services, & Community Engagement?

A: Today! Students are encouraged to set up an appointment for an individual consultation with the staff by contacting us at Career@dbq.edu. We will help the student based on where they are in their process - exploring careers, internship searches, applying for jobs. It is never too early or too late to start the conversation.

Q: Should my student become involved on campus or get a work study position?

A: Yes! These experiences will help develop transferable skills your student will use in future employment opportunities and also build strong networks as they move their UD experience and beyond.

View information on Work Study and Student Involvement.

Q: Should I give my student feedback on their resume?

A: Of course! An extra set of eyes on a resume always helps to catch any typos or errors. We are also here to help and provide them up-to-date feedback based on market trends.

Q: Will there be employer events or career fairs for my student to attend?

A: Absolutely! We communicate opportunities to students through a variety of platforms to help get the word out. Find us on Instagram, Tik Tok and Facebook to stay in the know.

Q: If I have a job or internship that I want to share with UD students, how can I do that?

A: We use the online job platform, Handshake, for all of our job postings for students and alumni. If you already have a Handshake account, add University of Dubuque to Your Schools. If you do not have a Handshake account you can create your free account at dbq.joinhandshake.com and connect students to opportunities at your company.

Q: Do you accept donations of professional clothing?

A: Of course! Donate your new and gently used professional clothing that is clean and free of stains, holes, and odor. Donations may be dropped off during scheduled open hours in the Office of Vocation, Career Services, and Community Engagement -  Lower Level, Peters Commons.
