The new Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Flight Operations - Professional Aeronautics (Rotary Wing) is a streamlined pathway designed for transfer students, career changers, and students looking to enter the helicopter industry sooner.
 
Class Requirements 
  • Total – 70 credits
  • Aviation Core Courses – 40 credits
The aviation core includes the courses and training directly related to the professional pilot pathway. The bulk of these courses consist of required ground schools, including AVI 131, AVI 231, and AVI 233, along with courses such as Aviation Meteorology and Applied Aerodynamics. Students may also choose to complete CFI and CFII training as electives, allowing them to become flight instructors and begin building valuable flight experience after graduation.
 
Important Notes
  1. Training Timeline: This degree plan assumes an aggressive and consistent rate of progress through flight training. Students should expect to train year-round, including during the summer. Delays in flight training or slower-than-expected progress may extend the time required to complete the program.
  2. CFI/CFII Electives: Students are encouraged to use their available electives for the CFI and CFII ground and flight labs. While other electives may be selected, completing CFI/CFII training provides a strong pathway toward potential employment as a flight instructor at UD and allows graduates to begin building the flight experience needed for their professional aviation careers.
