A 21st century curriculum to meet the demands of 21st century health care is the hallmark of the Nursing major at the University of Dubuque. Upon completion of the major, graduates will:

  • Integrate, translate, and apply established and evolving disciplinary nursing knowledge, ways of knowing, and knowledge from other disciplines, including a foundation in liberal arts and natural and social sciences.
  • Apply clinical judgment to deliver person-centered care to patients, families, and communities in various settings.
  • Apply knowledge of social determinants of health to promote population health along the continuum from public health prevention to disease management of populations.
  • Synthesize, translate, apply, and disseminate nursing knowledge to improve health and transform health care.
  • Understand and apply established and emerging principles of safety and improvement science.
  • Collaborate, advocate, and communicate across professions and with care team members, patients, families, communities, and other stakeholders to optimize care and strengthen outcomes.
  • Coordinate resources to provide safe, quality, equitable care to diverse populations.
  • Understand and use information and communication technologies and informatics processes to provide care, gather data, and support decision-making
  • Formulate and cultivate a sustainable professional nursing identity that reflects nursing's characteristics, values, and ethical commitments.
  • Participates in activities and self-reflection that foster lifelong learning and personal health and support the development of nursing expertise and assertion of leadership.
