Through a rigorous balance of studio curriculum, performance work, and academic study, students are given the opportunity to explore drama from several analytical and methodological frameworks: technical, creative, historical, cultural, and aesthetic. Upon completion of the Theatre major, students will be able to:

  • Evaluate the art and craft of theatre both critically and conceptually.
  • Create and perform a variety of theatrical works with a high level of comprehension and technical skill.
  • Analyze scripts, scenes, and plays by identifying and deconstructing basic elements of productions: plot, character, theme, language, rhythm, mood, and spectacle.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of western theatrical history and literature from ancient Greece to the present.
  • Possess the practical knowledge and the professional skills required to pursue entry-level professional work and/or advanced theatre studies.
  • Apply excellent moral character and professional ethics to the field of theatre through performance and collaboration.
