Using the colors of the rainbow students will learn about density, properties of water, chemical reactions and more through this interactive, rainbow filled experience! Students will partner up to learn about the scientific process and run their very own colorful experiments. The Bistro restaurants in Paris are quite charming and so is this class. Remy, the rat chef from the movie, Ratatouille, will help us play games, sing songs, and learn about food while learning to speak and read French. We will learn about the French culture and language. On Friday, we will eat a wonderful French meal in a formal setting of Ratatouille's Café while using the French words we have learned.

The American Girls - Characters of Strength

In this course we will explore five of the historical characters in the American Girl series. Each historical character’s story helps readers make connections to themselves, others, and the world.

Through this course students will learn how important it is to help others, protect the earth, overcome injustice, and believe in themselves. Learn about the chemistry, biology, physics, and math that Forensic Biologists use to understand the events that happened at crime scenes in this fun interactive class! Students will have the opportunity to create their own private investigator identities, collect evidence from “crime scenes” and work together to catch the bad guy. Aviation Week 1-Beginning Aviation JUNE 21-25 for Grades 5, 6, 7

Experience "The World of Flight." Gain an insight into the thrill of flying as you learn about the depth of knowledge it takes to fly! Learn the skills of flying by flying in the UD flight simulator. An optional 30-minute orientation flight can be arranged during class time on Friday for an additional fee.

(Note: This class meets 12:30-4:00 at the UD Flight Operations Center at the Dubuque Airport for all five days the week of June 21-25 for students in Grades 5-6-7.)

Aviation Week 2-Advanced Aviation, JUNE 28-JULY 2 for Grades 5, 6,7

For those students who want to continue their aviation experience, sign up for Advanced Aviation. This course will include a review of the initial basic course, an introduction to the next level of pilot skills and knowledge, and an introduction to aeronautical information, procedures and simulated maneuvers. It will cover ground operations, basic flight maneuvers, classroom training, and the use of the UD Flight Simulator for "hands-on" practice. Another flight will be arranged during class time on Friday for an additional fee.

Spend the week learning and creating all types of weaving: loom, arm, macrame and basket weaving. Materials will include yarn, cords reeds, beads, feathers, other natural materials. Each student will be able to work at their own pace using problem solving, measuring and math. Creativity and originality is the key to this class.

Environmental Explorations

Come along as we jump into the muck of Catfish Creek, head over the river and through the woods in the Mines of Spain, and journey into the lab amidst the teeny-tiny world of microplastics. Are you excited at the prospect of embarking on an adventure into the fascinating world of scientific research? The best way to learn science is to do science and one of the most important aspects of exploring science is by doing research. UD kids will interact with UD students doing summer research projects and will read existing research to formulate research questions, gather data, use math to analyze the data, and present the results to the rest of the group. Exploring Aviation with Models and Drones

In a mock trial, students play the roles of attorneys and witnesses as they prepare and present both sides of a hypothetical legal case. If you love public speaking and can think on your feet, or you like to act, then this course, taught by a lawyer, is for you.

 

 

 

Learn about direct examinations, cross examinations, opening statements and closing arguments. Then write your own. You will be given a hands-on opportunity to examine the legal process. You will try your case to a jury on the last day. So, what are you waiting for - Suit Up and Mock On!
