Week 1: Current 1st - 2nd Graders
Discover the world of rocket science using math, science, and technology. Build rockets and perform experiments to show how rockets fly. Look at the Shuttle Space Transport System and the Space Launch System which will take our astronauts to beyond Earth’s Orbit, the Moon, and Mars. Come join in these exciting adventures in space. NOTE: The class content, reading level, and hand dexterity required for rocket assembly may make this class most suitable for students who have completed grade 2.
Explore the wondrous and magical world of Harry Potter as told by J K Rowling. We will sort houses and determine qualities you share with the characters of all seven books! We will engage in activities pulled straight from the pages of the Harry Potter series, including Quidditch and making your own wand, tasting butter beer, and playing games all associated with your favorite characters from the books. If you love all things “Harry Potter,” this class is for you!
Learning and fun are guaranteed in this class as you conduct science experiments with common household items. Watch and participate in experiments, then take your knowledge home to amaze your family with a repeat “performance.” Learn to demonstrate how fossils were made millions of years ago. Communicate like a spy by making color changing ink. Investigate a substance that's not quite solid but not quite liquid. Become an engineer and work through the best way to make a paper airplane. The week of experiments will finish with a blast!

We will learn and read about other cultures while playing new and interesting games. On Friday, you will take home a bag full of games that you can play with your family for years to come. A booklet of instructions is included. If you want to learn games to challenge your parents, this is the class for you!

Whether you are interested in acting on-stage, or you like to take risks, or you just want to have fun and laugh, you will have a great time participating in a wide-range of theatre games that focus on building your acting and life skills. At the end of the week, you will get to perform a showcase for your invited guests. Join us and discover your love of theatre!

Rocket scientists are now needed to design and fly high performance rockets. Explore outer space and examine the aerodynamics of what makes rockets fly. Build high performance rockets and explore the stratosphere. Look at the SLS and the Orion manned spacecraft as you journey in the Artemis space program to the moon and back.
Do you love yummy foods? Spend each day in the UD kitchen making and adding your creativity to the food of the day. Mini quesadillas, pancakes with sauce, and more are on the menu. A passionate local chef will be your guide.
Learn how to make, bake, and frost cupcakes! Divide into teams and use a professional kitchen to experiment with different flavors and decorations. Present your best cupcake creation to be judged by special guests. May the best cupcake win!

Learn the basics of robotics, including understanding components like motors, sensors, and microcontrollers. Apply this knowledge to construct your own drawing robots, capable of creating intricate designs and patterns on paper. The fun doesn't stop there! Get creative with bristle bots – tiny, vibrating robots made from simple materials like toothbrush heads and small motors.

You will transform make-believe into apparent reality and make the impossible seem real! Your family and friends will be amazed and entertained by you. Come and learn from a magician with more than 40 years of performing experience. It will be a magical time.
The Bistro restaurants in Paris are quite charming and so is this class. Remy, the rat chef from the movie, Ratatouille, will help us play games, sing songs, and learn about food while learning to speak and read French. We will learn about the French culture and language. On Friday, we will eat a wonderful French meal in a formal setting of Ratatouille's Café while using the French words we have learned.

Week 3: Current 5th - 6th - 7th Graders
1 course for the week
Experience "The World of Flight." Gain an insight into the thrill of flying as you learn about the depth of knowledge it takes to fly! Learn the skills of flying in the UD flight simulator. An optional 30-minute orientation flight can be arranged during class time on Friday for an additional fee. NOTE #1: Full length pants must be worn for the flight. A self-provided logbook can be signed by the instructor on that day. Note #2: This class is for students who have completed grades 5, 6, or 7. It meets 12:15-4:30 at the UD Flight Operations Center at the Dubuque Airport on June 17,18,20,21. Class will be held ON CAMPUS on June 19 because the Flight Operations Center is closed on the Juneteenth holiday. Parents/Guardians are responsible for transportation to and from the airport.

Do you think you might have a future in nursing or medicine? Find out by spending afternoons on campus with University of Dubuque nurses and nursing professors! Be involved in hands-on experiences and get a glimpse into basic skills needed in pediatric, emergency, and operating room nursing. Discover how to take vital signs, give injections, and manage emergency situations. Explore tracheostomy and IV simulation equipment. Tour a local hospital and see medical professionals “in action.” All of this, and more, await you in this exciting class! Note: This class is only for students who have completed grades 5, 6, or 7. Identical classes are offered June 24-28 and July 8-12. Class size is capped at 8 students each week.
(Students must have attended Beginning Aviation in order to sign up for this course.)
For those students who want to continue their aviation experience, sign up for Advanced Aviation. This course will include a review of the initial basic course, an introduction to the next level of pilot skills and knowledge, and an introduction to aeronautical information, procedures and simulated maneuvers. It will cover ground operations, basic flight maneuvers, classroom training, and the use of the UD Flight Simulator for "hands-on" practice. A flight will be arranged during class time on Friday for an additional fee. NOTE #1: Full length pants must be worn for the flight. If you have completed “Beginning Aviation” and “Advanced Aviation,” and wish to bring your aviation experience to the next level, then sign up for the Master of Aviation course. Note: This class meets 12:30-4:00 at the UD Flight Operations Center at the Dubuque Airport during the week of July 8 - July 12. Parents/Guardians are responsible for transportation to and from the airport.
Delve into the world of law and order! This class is taught by an attorney who will facilitate opportunities for you to meet and learn from prosecutors, public defenders, private practice lawyers, and/or judges. A field trip to the Dubuque Courthouse will provide you a unique "insider look." You will collaborate to use your legal knowledge to create roles and components of a mock trial.
This hands-on class emphasizes learning and performing magic. You will learn sleight of hand techniques that apply to close-up, parlor and the classics of magic. The focus will be on smaller and easier carried props. Students will learn magic with the goal of performing a group show at the end of the week. The class will be taught by an experienced area magician who is a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and The Society of American Magicians. Come and learn to dazzle your friends and family!
Let shapes and hues showcase the artistic ability within you! Travel the world of art while expressing yourself through painting. You will learn about famous painting styles and artists around the globe and make your own “masterpieces” using your creativity and imagination. Bring your amazing self to this fun-filled week and leave your mark while collaborating with other aspiring young artists like you! See you there!
Divide into teams and delve into the world of pasta perfection! Your team will experiment in a professional kitchen to create a signature dish. Put a spin on something old or develop an entirely new dish. Try different flavors, textures, and preparation techniques to come up with your best creation. Go team-to-team in a competition judged by special guests!
Parents will be invited to attend the competition on Thursday.
