Melting Gender Roles: Stirring Up Awareness

A team of University of Dubuque students, faculty, and staff were recently awarded a $4300 grant from American Association of University Women (AAUW), sponsored by Pantene. This grant, focused on supporting student projects to address gender stereotypes and biases on college campuses, will fund an event entitled Melting Gender Roles: Stirring Up Awareness. The event, scheduled for Wednesday, April 8, at 7:30 p.m. in Peters Commons Dining Hall on the UD campus, is being held in conjunction with UD’s Healthy Relationship Week; it is free and open to the public.

Wrestling Honored with Top-30 Academic Ranking by NWCA

The National Westling Coaches Association (NWCA) announced the their academic awards for 2014-15 at the NCAA Division III National Championships this week. The University of Dubuque wrestling team earned the NWCA Academic Team Honor by being ranked #28 in the nation in overall team grade point average with a 3.27 GPA.

In the nightcap, the offensive breaks out for 10 runs on 10 hits in 10-1 rout of UW-River Falls in the Spartans final game of the weekend at the Rochester Dome Games hosted by Luther.

The University of Dubuque men's season was halted in the opening round of the 2015 NCAA Division III National Tournament on Friday night. The Spartans hampered by costly fouls and cold shooting lost to Illinois Wesleyan 53-72. The Spartans finish the season with a record 23 victories, best in school history.

Kelli Gerace’s first grand slam of the year aided a seven-run third inning that allowed the University of Dubuque softball team to run away from St. Olaf in a five-inning affair, 12-1, on Friday afternoon. In the nightcap, the Spartans mustered one hit and two unearned runs in a 7-2 loss to UW-La Crosse.

Track and Field Improve Rankings

The penultimate computer rankings of the 2015 NCAA Division III indoor track & field season featured a familiar set of schools at the top, some minor reshuffling in the middle, and new faces at the bottom. The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released the rankings on Tuesday, March 3. The University of Dubuque men's and women's team moved up the rankings after strong performances in the 2015 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships. The Spartans ranked 33rd in last rankings, leapt to #19 in the nation for the men's program highest ranking in school history.

Kotas Leads Quartet of All-IIAC Selections

The University of Dubuque women’s basketball team placed four Spartans on the All-Iowa Conference (IIAC) teams led by senior Jenna Kotas. Kotas led the Iowa Conference (IIAC) in scoring and finished second in rebounding to earn her second-straight All-IIAC First Team Award and senior Meggie Schmidt placed on the All-IIAC Second Team after pacing the IIAC in steals. Senior Kayla Springer and sophomore Emily Brinker were named Honorable Mention.
