University of Dubuque Extends Admission Decision Deadline to June 1, 2024

By University Relations Staff

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque has extended its admission decision and deposit deadline by one month to Saturday, June 1, 2024, in response to significant delays associated with the new FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The adjusted deadline will help prospective students and their families navigate the college decision process as they deal with the disruption caused by the rollout of the U.S. Department of Education's "Better FAFSA."

The online FAFSA application didn't open until late December 2023, almost two months later than usual, because of a major overhaul by the Department of Education to the application that students and families must complete to apply for federal student aid.

"We are working to prepare financial planning awards in a timely manner, but we must be thorough and take the appropriate amount of time to process information accurately," said Robert Broshous, MBA, vice president of enrollment management and dean of admission at UD. "We do not want to rush students and their family members. We want to provide them with the time they need to make an informed choice about where to attend college."

Extending UD's admission decision and deposit deadline by one month provides much needed additional time for students and their families to fully consider their financial planning options while they continue to navigate FAFSA issues that are being worked out through the Department of Education.

"This extension also allows students and their family members, if they would like, to visit campus again and reconnect with their admission counselor should they have additional questions about the admission process," Broshous said. "We are here to help students and their families as much as we can through this difficult process."
