UD Exhibit to Highlight Driftless Region
DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque's Bisignano Art Gallery will host a free reception for "Driftless Art: Gail Chavenelle, Jenna Lueck, and Henry Matthiessen III" from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, November 5, 2022, in the gallery at Heritage Center, 2255 Bennett Street. It is open to the public.
"The Driftless Region is an oasis of lush topography. We think this show is as well. The content in these images in the gallery immediately hits a nerve. Those trees, that rolling plain, this sunset - it's so familiar. That is, it really is this part of the driftless area. For me, that's what pulls me in initially. But the form is equally intriguing with Chavenelle's whimsical naturalism, Lueck's saturation of color, and Matthiessen's magical realism," said Alan Garfield, director of the art gallery.
Comprised of Northeast Iowa, Southwest Wisconsin, and Southeast Minnesota, the Driftless Region is around 24,000 square miles that is free from glacial drift.
"Driftless Art: Gail Chavenelle, Jenna Lueck, and Henry Matthiessen III" is free and open to the public through Friday, November 25, 2022. The exhibit includes unique sculptures by Chavenelle, vibrant paintings by Lueck, and sublime photographs by Matthiessen.
The reception for "Driftless Art: Gail Chavenelle, Jenna Lueck, and Henry Matthiessen III" will occur in conjunction with Dueling Pianos: Piano Fondue. The fully-interactive, high-energy, sing-along show will start at 8:00 p.m. Saturday, November 5, 2022, in John and Alice Butler Hall, Heritage Center.
