UD Announces 12th Annual Live at Heritage Center Performing Arts Series

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque Heritage Center's 2024-2025 Live at Heritage Center Performing Arts Series will feature a captivating array of live performances including comedian Nate Jackson, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, the U.S. Army Field Band & Soldiers' Chorus Concert, and more.

Victoria Molle and Randy Schultz, co-directors of Heritage Center, are excited to welcome audiences for the 12th annual Live at Heritage Center Performing Arts Series.

"We continue to provide engaging live performances that not only entertain but also engage our campus community and the greater tri-state area," Molle said.

Schultz added, "This season we will welcome back to Heritage Center the Dubuque Arts Council and the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra for bonus events and, of course, our wonderful Live at Heritage Center Performing Arts Series events. See you soon!"

The 2024-2025 Live at Heritage Center Performing Arts Series will open with Gail Archer, Organist - John and Alice Butler Pipe Organ Recital Series on Sunday, September 22, 2024, and close with David Briggs, Organist - John and Alice Butler Pipe Organ Recital Series on Sunday, April 6, 2025.

Tickets for most of the performances are on sale now! Stop by the Farber Box Office, Heritage Center, 2255 Bennett Street; call 563.585.7469; or visit www.dbq.edu/HeritageCenter to purchase tickets. The box office is open from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 90 minutes prior to events.

Patrons are encouraged to purchase tickets online for reduced ticket handling fees.

The Heritage Performing Arts Loyalty System (H-PALS) allows patrons to earn rewards with most ticket purchases. For every $200 spent on eligible events, patrons will receive one free ticket (valued up to $50) to their choice of eligible event. Gail Archer, Organist - John and Alice Butler Pipe Organ Recital Series

Gail Archer is an international concert organist, recording artist, choral conductor, and lecturer who was the first American woman to play the complete works of Olivier Messiaen. She is a college organist at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York, the director of the music program at Barnard College, Columbia University in New York, New York, where she conducts the Barnard-Columbia Chorus and Chamber Singers, and a faculty member at the Harriman Institute, Columbia University in New York, New York. Archer also is the artistic director of the artist and young artist recital series at historic Central Synagogue in New York, New York.


Nate Jackson, Comedian - Homecoming at UD!

Nate Jackson has exploded as one of the fastest growing comedians through his viral content and remarkable engagement on TikTok, where he has amassed over 3 million followers and more than 500 million views globally. Jackson is a comedian, actor, writer, and digital creator who sells out comedy clubs and theaters across America. Jackson can be seen in the upcoming feature film Good Fortune, directed by Aziz Ansari, and he had a recurring role on the hit NBC series Young Rock. Jackson has appeared in Spirited on Apple TV+, Curb Your Enthusiasm and All Def Comedy on HBO, Nick Cannon Presents: Wild 'N Out on MTV, and Kevin Hart's Hart of the City on Comedy Central. Additionally, he has appeared multiple times at the Just For Laughs festival in Montreal. In 2019, Jackson was named to the Time Out LA Top 10 Comedians to Watch List.

This UD tradition will bring spiritual meaning to your Christmas season. The Department of Fine and Performing Arts celebrates with you the birth of Christ through a concert presentation featuring the John and Alice Butler Pipe Organ, UD choirs, and UD Concert Band with live narration. Complimentary holiday refreshments and live music from the UD Jazz Band will immediately follow the concert.


Tommy Dorsey Orchestra

Jeff Bush began his association with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra in January 2000 when he was hired by bandleader and legendary trombonist Buddy Morrow. Bush toured with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and was entrusted to play many of the iconic Tommy Dorsey solos and, on occasion, lead the band in Morrow's absence. Bush is honored to carry on the Dorsey tradition in leading the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra.


U.S. Army Field Band & Soldiers' Chorus Concert

The Concert Band and Soldiers' Chorus are the oldest and largest of the U.S. Army Field Band's performing components. Founded in 1946 and 1957 respectively, these two ensembles combine to present joint concerts on their national tours. They have performed in all 50 states and 30 foreign countries for audiences totaling hundreds of millions. The joining of these two ensembles allows them to offer unparalleled versatility of programming, ranging from orchestral masterworks and operatic arias to Sousa marches, jazz classics, and Broadway musicals.


David Briggs, Organist - John and Alice Butler Pipe Organ Recital Series

David Briggs is an internationally renowned organist whose performances are acclaimed for their musicality, virtuosity, and ability to excite and engage audiences of all ages. Consistently ranked as one of the finest organists of his generation, Briggs' extensive repertoire spans five centuries. He has also become one of the foremost organ transcribers of symphonic works, thereby giving listeners the opportunity to experience the organ in a new way. He has transcribed orchestral compositions by Schubert, Tchaikovsky, Elgar, Bruckner, Ravel, and Bach as well as Mahler's Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, and Eighth symphonies. Briggs is currently an artist-in-residence at the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in New York, New York.

Diamonds Are Forever - 75th Year and So Is Barbershop, Presented by the Dubuque Music Men Barbershop Chorus

The Dubuque Music Men Barbershop Chorus will welcome The Newfangled Four as the headline quartet for their annual barbershop show. From Southern California, The Newfangled Four is one of the top barbershop quartets in the world, performing all around the United States and internationally. Formed in fall 2012, this foursome quickly bonded through their involvements with the Westminster Chorus and Masters of Harmony, two well-renowned choruses in the Barbershop Harmony Society. Combining old fashion slapstick humor with their quirky offbeat comedy, The Newfangled Four merges their talents as top-notch harmony singers and world-class entertainers. In 2013, the quartet won the International Collegiate Barbershop Quartet Contest and the Far Western District Quartet Contest, and they finished sixth in the world in 2023.
