What inspired you to start a podcast?
"I've had a passion for film since I was a kid. As I got older, I wanted to learn more about the filmmaking process and I really enjoyed talking about movies. I directed and edited small music videos here in town and learned how to edit content, which led to me finally having the confidence to create my own platform giving my own thoughts on film and pop culture."
Professor Franklin Yartey shared that as a skilled podcaster, you have had the opportunity to interact with prominent figures in our society through your interviews. Who are some of the most memorable people you've interviewed? Why do those individuals stand out?
"Doing the podcast has created so many opportunities for me; I've done press for many conventions. I've met lots of celebrities over the last two years like Mark Hamill, Michael J. Fox, the cast of Stranger Things, etc. For me, the one that stands out is Tony Todd. I interviewed Tony in Minnesota before his passing and he gave me some of the best advice I ever received. We spoke for about five minutes before he gave me an interview because he appreciated my kindness and professionalism. He told me 'Let your passion guide your journey' and I'll forever be grateful. He also signed my poster."
What advice do you have for others interested in starting a podcast?
"Make content that fulfills you, stay true to yourself, and be consistent!"
How have the faculty in UD's Department of Communication helped you on your journey?
"I've taken so many of the lessons that I've learned in class and applied them to my podcast. Since starting the podcast, my communication skills have drastically improved, and I credit my professors for that."
In your opinion, what makes the University of Dubuque unique?
"The University of Dubuque prepares you for the real world and gives you every opportunity to reach your full potential."
