She is currently in the master in management - communication management program through UD's Learning Institute for Fulfillment and Engagement (LIFE) program.

Where does your passion for music come from?

"I come from a family with a strong musical tradition, which sparked my passion for music and singing at a very early age. One of my first performances was singing my ABCs as a solo at church. I have been an active member of the church choir since the age of four, an experience I continue to cherish. Singing serves as both a creative outlet and a meaningful coping skill for me, allowing me to express myself while finding joy and balance."

You helped James Gunn (MDiv'02, DMin'15), DMin, Edwin B. Lindsay Chaplain and dean of chapel, coordinate the worship leadership for Spring Convocation that includes four alumnae vocalists. What has it been like to bring these Spartans together to perform on campus?

"It has been a truly meaningful experience bringing us together in worship. We have known one another since our time attending UD and previously sang in the Gospel Choir. However, this was our first time coming together as a group. We were pleasantly surprised by how seamlessly the rehearsal went, especially given that it was our first time collaborating in this way. These ladies are truly gifted, bringing exceptional talent and artistry to their work."

What do you hope students will take away from Spring Convocation?

"I hope students take away a powerful message of togetherness and unity. The event serves as a reminder that individuals from diverse races, backgrounds, and belief systems can come together with mutual respect and a shared purpose. By fostering connection and understanding, Spring Convocation highlights the importance of inclusion, collaboration, and community - values that strengthen us both individually and collectively."

What are some of your fondest memories from your time as a student at the University of Dubuque?

"I have truly enjoyed being involved in organizations such as the Spartanettes Dance Ensemble, the UD Gospel Choir, the Young Women's Association, and the Black Student Union. Each experience has contributed to my personal growth and sense of community on campus. One of my most memorable experiences was traveling with the Black Student Union to Wisconsin Dells for a student empowerment weekend, which provided valuable opportunities for connection, learning, and leadership development."

What advice do you have for current students?

"Take the time to slow down and fully embrace your experience, as it passes quickly and is time you can never reclaim. Make the most of every opportunity to network and build meaningful connections with your peers and faculty, as these relationships can have a lasting impact and prove invaluable in the future."

In your opinion, what makes the University of Dubuque unique?

"The University of Dubuque exemplifies a true melting pot, bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences. It is a place where students from all walks of life can find their community, build meaningful connections, and feel a genuine sense of belonging and acceptance. The UD environment fosters personal growth, mutual respect, and lasting relationships that extend well beyond the campus experience."
