Rev. Beth McCaw to be Installed as Dean of the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary
By Stacey OrtmanDUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque Theological Seminary will hold a Service of Installation on campus for Rev. Beth McCaw, DMin, as dean of the seminary at 11:15 a.m. Monday, August 5, 2024, in Blades Chapel inside Blades Hall.
The service is free and open to the public. It will also be livestreamed via www.facebook.com/DubuqueSeminary.
McCaw's appointment as dean of the seminary and vice president of the university began January 2024. She started her faithful service to UDTS in 2004 when she was called as pastor to students and assistant professor of ministry. McCaw was promoted to associate professor of ministry in 2017 and continues to teach with special attention to caregiving, mission, and congregational life.
"The spring and summer have been filled with creative work with our faculty and staff and visioning with students and alumni and churches across the country," McCaw said. "Witnessing the relationship between growth in class and fruitful mission beyond is deeply meaningful. We are answering God's call to provide the formation and tools needed by the church in today's world."
In 2020, McCaw received the 2020 William L. Lomax Award and, as such, was a recipient of the 2020 Faculty Hall of Fame for Excellence in Teaching and Advising. Recently, she was a major author on a proposal that received a $1.25 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. to help establish Plentiful Gifts: Nourishing Members for the Flourishing of Small Member Congregations.
As an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), McCaw holds a doctor of ministry and master of divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Hamilton, Massachusetts. She earned a bachelor of arts from Hope College in Holland, Michigan.
Rev. Bradley Longfield, PhD, professor of church history, will preach "What Shall We Do?" at the service. Afterwards, a lunch will be held at noon in Alumni Courtyard.
