Heritage Center to Celebrate Mardi Gras with Doreen's Jazz New Orleans

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Doreen's Jazz New Orleans, presented in cooperation with the Dubuque Arts Council with special guests UD Concert Band and UD Jazz Band, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2023, in John and Alice Butler Hall, Heritage Center on the University of Dubuque campus. The performance is part of the 10th annual Live at Heritage Center Performing Arts Series.

Celebrate Mardi Gras with this special "Fat Tuesday" show! Doreen Ketchens' Jazz New Orleans brings the best of New Orleans to our stage. Combining clarinet, guitar, vocals, drums, and piano, this group's primary interest lies in spreading the culture and traditional music of New Orleans all over the world through performance and outreach.

Doreen's Jazz New Orleans has traveled the world performing their joyful, energetic, original, and soulful music in 47 states and 24 countries and counting. They have established a stellar reputation with millions of fans around the globe as well as online fame with over 85 million views and viral videos!

The UD Concert Band, conducted by Nolan Hauta, DMA, director of concert bands and assistant professor of instrumental music, and the UD Jazz Band, conducted by Evan Glickman, DMA, director of jazz and athletic bands and assistant professor of music, will open the show.

The Heritage Center performance is presented in partnership with the Dubuque Arts Council's Doreen Ketchens Residency which also includes a free performance and events for students in grades 4-8, the accompanying educational curriculum, and master classes for high school and college students. Ketchens will spend one week in residence, working with students grades 4-12 and with University of Dubuque students. This world-class experience is made possible in part through the generosity of Humanities Iowa.
