Celebrate the Holiday Season with Christmas at Heritage Center

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Listen to carols from around the world and experience a beloved University of Dubuque tradition with Christmas at Heritage Center "All the Souls on Earth Shall Sing!" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, December 1, 2023, in John and Alice Butler Hall, Heritage Center. The concert that celebrates the spiritual meaning of the Christmas season is part of the 11th annual Live at Heritage Center Performing Arts Center.

- $14 to $20 (Child: $9)
- Ticketing fees apply. UD affiliates are eligible for a $5 discount.
- Admission is free for UD students, and faculty and staff will receive one free ticket.

Presented by UD's Department of Fine and Performing Arts, Christmas at Heritage Center will feature the talents of over 60 students in the UD ensembles, including the UD Concert Band, conducted by Nolan Hauta, DMA, director of concert bands; the UD Concert Choir and UD Chamber Singers, directed by Kristen Eby, MM, head of the Department of Fine and Performing Arts and director of choral activities; and the UD String Ensemble, conducted by Tracey Rush, MM, adjunct professor of music, in partnership with the Northeast Iowa School of Music. New this year is the UD Handbell Ensemble, directed by Eby.

New carols will be mixed in with traditional favorites such as "O Come, O Come Emmanuel," "Carol of the Bells," and "Away in a Manger." The concert will also highlight a Dubuque composition - Rush's beautiful setting of 'Cradle Hymn" for choir and string orchestra.

Christmas at Heritage Center will also include narration written by Timothy Slemmons, PhD, professor of homiletics and worship at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary.

The concert will conclude with a rousing rendition of "I Saw Three Ships," the English carol from which this year's Christmas at Heritage Center's theme is taken, performed by all the ensembles and Charles Barland, DMA, university organist, on the John and Alice Butler Pipe Organ.

Following the concert, a Christmas cookie reception will take place in the CyberCafe and American Trust Lounge inside Heritage Center with lively holiday tunes provided by UD's Jazz Band, conducted by Evan Glickman, DMA, director of jazz and athletic bands.

Patrons are encouraged to purchase tickets online for reduced ticket handling fees.

The Farber Box Office is open 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 90 minutes prior to events.

In case of inclement weather, Christmas at Heritage Center's snow date is 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 2.

Christmas at Heritage Center will air on KDTH (AM 1370) at 11:00 p.m. Christmas Eve, Sunday, December 24, and 4:00 p.m. Christmas Day, Monday, December 25.

In its second year, the Heritage Performing Arts Loyalty System (H-PALS) continues to allow patrons to earn rewards with most ticket purchases. For every $200 spent on eligible events, patrons will receive one free ticket (valued up to $50) to their choice of eligible event.
