Bisignano Art Gallery Opens Fall 2021 with "Living Proof Art by Cancer Survivors"
By Stacey OrtmanDUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque's Bisignano Art Gallery has partnered with Living Proof Exhibit to host the exhibit's annual exhibition of art by cancer survivors and patients.
"Living Proof: Art by Cancer Survivors" celebrates the spirit and creativity of these men and women as well as the therapeutic benefits of the arts for those impacted by cancer. The exhibition features 25 artists from across Iowa and Illinois. Artwork was chosen through a jury process.
"The exhibit showcases the passion, courage, and talent of cancer survivors who use art to celebrate and reflect upon survival," said Alan Garfield, director of the art gallery.
Living Proof Exhibit provides therapeutic benefits of the arts to those impacted by cancer. This includes patients, survivors, families, and caregivers. Living Proof Exhibit provides exhibitions of art created by cancer survivors as an annual major exhibition and permanent rotation exhibitions at the cancer centers, free monthly Creative Sessions, and art-to-go projects for patients and their families as well as utilizes Beam Pro technology to share the exhibitions at the Figge Art Museum with patients receiving treatment at the cancer centers.
"Living Proof: Art by Cancer Survivors" is free and open to the public. The exhibit will be open through Tuesday, September 28, 2021, in the gallery, Heritage Center, 2255 Bennett St.
Gallery hours are 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday during the academic year. The gallery is also open in conjunction with all major events in John and Alice Butler Hall. "Living Proof: Art by Cancer Survivors" is also available virtually at gallery.dbq.edu.
