The Cottingham & Butler Fitness Center strives to offer the best services possible to the university's students, faculty, and staff. It is a safe and enjoyable place for the UD community to exercise.

  • Locations/Amenities: The Cottingham and Butler fitness center is located in the Chlapaty Recreation & Wellness Center. It is staffed by student supervisors. The fitness center features cardio equipment such as treadmills, ellipticals, and bikes. Also, it has selectorized or stack loaded machines, plate loaded pieces, dumbbells, etc.
  • Group Fitness: Participating in the group fitness classes is a great way to exercise, reduce stress, and meet new people at the university.

Policies

Cottingham & Butler Fitness Center and A.Y. McDonald Indoor Track

Membership Information
  • All areas, except the fitness center are free of charge for all UD faculty & staff along with their dependents (must be dependents per IRS regulations.) Dependents under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent which includes on the track/courts and in the fitness center. A membership to the fitness center must be purchased.
  • Fitness Center (Membership required): The fitness center will be open for all UD faculty & staff, NICC faculty & staff, and Cottingham & Butler employees and dependents over the age of 16. Spouses are dependents. Dependents 16-18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent at all times.
  • For spouses or dependents to have a membership, the faculty, staff, and student members must also have a membership.
  • Spouses (dependents) of students (i.e. seminary, grad, and undergrad) are allowed to purchase memberships to the fitness center and group exercise classes.
  • There are two types of membership; single or family. Single meaning faculty or staff member ($99.00) and for a family membership $99.00 for the faculty/staff person and $52.00 for each additional family member.
  • Memberships run January 1 through June 30 and July 1 through December 31. The membership rate for faculty and staff is $99 for each 6 month period. Sorry no proration. The membership rate for each dependent is $52 for each 6-month period.
  • All full-time students, including seminary, but not including graduates, have already paid their memberships as part of their semester fees.
  • Any part-time student, graduate student, or NICC student can purchase a membership for $75.00 a semester.

Step 1: UD faculty and staff need to complete the CRWC Waiver at MyUD under Staff/Faculty Forms tab in the Staff/Faculty e-Forms box.

Cottingham & Butler employees and NICC faculty and staff need to complete the CRWC waiver.

Step 2: The membership fee will be collected online or at the student accounts office located in Smith Hall or there is a membership payroll deduction option for university faculty and staff. Membership payment will be deducted over the course of the membership dates for the payroll deduction.

Step 3: Please contact the security office for activation of your ID card or take the receipt you will receive from the student accounts office to the security office located in Smith Hall. For faculty and staff, the security office will make sure your ID card is up-to-date and authorize you for fitness center use in the system. Dependents are able to email their pictures and will need to schedule a time with the security office to obtain a special ID card.

  • At the front desk in the CRWC you will be asked to show your ID to use both the fitness center and indoor track (courts). The attendant will need to scan your ID card for entrance into these areas.

Policies

  • All eligible members must present their ID card to the front desk.
  • Proper workout attire must be worn. Proper attire includes closed-toe footwear, workout shorts, and a shirt. Shirts must be worn at all times. No jeans, work boots, sandals, or clothing that will damage padding on benches or may lead to injury.
  • Members must bring separate athletic (tennis) shoes for use in the workout areas.
  • Lockers are provided to the UD community free of charge during hours of operation in CRWC 203 and 204.
  • ONLY water is allowed on the track (courts) and in the fitness center.
  • No verbal or physical attacks on anyone or anything permitted. Foul language will not be tolerated. Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.
  • Violation of any policy will lead to immediate expulsion from the facility and possible suspension of further use.
