Heritage Center Announces New Virtual Performances for SchoolBus Performance Series

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque is excited to announce new virtual performances for a revamped 2020-2021 SchoolBus Performance Series. Each show has curriculum connections, and many of the shows also have supplemental activities and study guides.

“Despite the pandemic, Heritage Center wanted to continue to be a resource for area educators and their classrooms in providing access to supplementary curriculum-based programming. We hope these new virtual events will help develop an appreciation for live arts experiences in young people,” said Thomas Robbins, executive director of Heritage Center.

Virtual performances are available for 12 shows produced by a variety of theater companies that have longstanding relationships and commitments to Heritage Center. All of the theater companies represented have appeared in-person on stage at Heritage Center many times.

Performances were selected to complement classroom curriculum with creative and imaginative learning, critical thinking opportunities, and performance experiences.

Launched in 2014, the SchoolBus Performance Series is typically an annual daytime field trip program that provides learning opportunities for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade students in public school, private school, homeschool, and accredited preschool and daycare groups. Because of the pandemic, the 2020-2021 SchoolBus Performance Series was postponed and revamped in a virtual format.

Virtual performance pricing varies depending on the theater company producing the show. To purchase virtual tickets, please visit www.dbq.edu/heritagecenter/schoolbus. A portion of ticket proceeds will benefit Heritage Center.

Robbins said he hopes to bring area students to Heritage Center to experience in-person performances once again next school year and beyond.
