Wrestling Drops A-R-C Opener to Luther

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque wrestling team led early over Luther in the American Rivers Conference opening dual, but came up short in the end, 22-18.
The Spartans dropped the first match of the afternoon at 141, but the fireworks began at 149. UD’s Luke Radeke led 1-0 after the second but a reversal and back points by Luther’s Michael Egan shifted it to 4-1 in favor of Eagon. Radeke responded with an escape and takedown of his own to even it up at 4-4 and rode out the remaining time to get over a minute riding time and secure a 5-4 win. Jessy Diaz used the momentum from Radeke to pin Teagan Miller in 1:00 to give UD a 9-3 lead after three matches.
At 165, UD’s Zarik Anderson and Luther’s Tanner Weaver went scoreless for the first two periods. Anderson started on top in the third and turned Weaver on his back for two back points and rode out Weaver for the entire two minutes to earn a 3-1 decision.
A major decision at 174 and a back-to-back pins at 184 and 194 for the Norse, quickly flipped a 12-3 UD lead, to a 19-12 Luther lead.
At 285, freshman Darryl Aiello halted the Luther run, as he took down ninth-ranked Keenan Feldpausch with 10 seconds remaining to take the match, 3-1. The Norse sealed their victory with a 9-2 decision at 125, however, Brendan Hazelton ended the match on a high note with a 2-1 victory at 133 to close the final score at 22-18.
The Spartans are off until Dec. 28th when they travel to the University of Chicago Duals.
