Women's Soccer Upend Monmouth, 3-2

MONMOUTH, Ill. – The University of Dubuque women’s soccer team went on the road for the first time this season and came away with a 3-2 win at Monmouth College.

How It Happened
-The Spartans made their presence early and often in the first half, taking three shots and earning three corner kick in the opening 10 minutes of play.
-UD took advantage of a Fighting Scot foul in the first half, when Alexa Martin lofted a free kick and Natalie Dienstbach headed it home for the first goal of the game.
-Just 90 seconds after the Diesntbach goal, the Spartans threatened again, with Amanda Chlebek and Brooke Brodzinski firing off back-to-back shots but both were saved by the Monmouth goalie.
-The Spartans used another set piece to their advantage, this time on a corner kick in the 39th minute when Martin, once again sent a pass into the box, this time it found Carissa Brown, who punched it home to put UD ahead 2-0.
-Meghan Moorman almost gave UD a 3-0 lead at halftime but here shot in the final seconds of the half ricocheted off the crossbar to send UD into the half up 2-0.
-Monmouth would get two goals within two minutes of each other in the 56th and 58th minutes to even the score at two all.
-However, the game would not stay tied for very long as Alexa Martin would continue her brilliant game, this time scoring the goal herself in the 61st minute to put UD back in front at 3-2.
-Neither team would get a shot off from the 62nd minute until the 78th minute, when Elana Krasowski fired one off for UD but it was saved.
-The UD defense would shut down the Fighting Scots the remainder of the way, allowing just two shots or the final 28 minutes, both of which were saved by Victoria Roethler.
