Women's Soccer Shutout Simpson on Senior Day

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women’s soccer team picked up a crucial American Rivers Conference win on Saturday afternoon by shutting out the Simpson Storm, 1-0.

How It Happened
-After a slow start offensively for both teams, it appeared the Spartans had the first goal of the game in the 32nd minute when Amanda Chlebek chested in a corner kick pass from Alexa Martin but the goal was waived off due to offsides.
-After the first 45 minutes of play, the teams remained tied at 0-0, however the Spartans had the edge in shots with nine compared to the Storm’s one.
-The Spartan offense continued to attack in the second half, in the 53rd minute, Alexa Martin sent a corner kick into the box, after a couple deflections, it landed at the feet of Natalie Dienstbach, who put it home off of the goalie’s hands for the first goal of the game and her fifth goal of the season.
-Moments later, it looked as if Brooke Brodzinski gave the Spartans their second goal in five minutes but it hit off the inside of the post on ricocheted out.
-Simpson’s best scoring look yet came in the 71st minute, getting a wide open look at the net from about 15 yards out but the shot went directly at UD goalie Victoria Roethler for the easy catch and save.
-UD continued to search for that insurance goal, in the 78th minute, Brodzinski hit the post yet again. The insurance goal would never come but the Spartans would run out the clock without any issues for the 1-0 win.
