Women’s Basketball Suffers First Loss at Augustana

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The University of Dubuque women's basketball team dropped their first game of the season on Saturday, falling to the Augustana Vikings, 75-56.

UD jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the opening minute of the first quarter, but the Vikings quickly evened it up ag 6-6 and it was the last time the Spartans led for the remainder of the game. The Spartans stayed within striking distance in the first half, constantly staying within one possession could never break through to regain the lead.

The Spartans went into the half trailing 32-26, but Augustana began to slowly pull away, out scoring the Spartan by six points in the third and seven in the fourth to upend the Spartans, 75-56.

Tabria Thomas once again led the Spartans in scoring, finishing with 12 points, while Alli Bailey was not far behind with nine of her own. Bailey, Miah Smith and Kathleen Mathias all finished with five rebounds.

The Spartans will begin American Rivers Conference action on Tuesday when they travel to Indianola, Iowa to take on Simpson College at 5:30 p.m.
