Box Score

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque women’s basketball team battled and stayed within single digits for the first half but the #10 Loras College Duhawks pulled away in the second half to upend the Spartans, 86-54.

After trailing Loars 21-15 after one quarter and the Duhawks building a lead as many as 16, the final Loras basket of the first half came at the 6:11 mark of the second quarter. The Spartan defense would put the clamps on to end the half on a 10-0 run and to get within eight points at the break.

The Spartans answered ever little run the 10th ranked Duhawks had for the first six minutes of the third quarter until the Duhawks caught fire. UD would fall victim to a 10-0 Loras run, spanning over the end of the third and beginning for the fourth, to fall behind by 21 and could not manage another rally.

Alli Bailey would go on to lead the Spartans with 13 points in 24 minutes of floor time. Miah Smith tallied 11 points on the night, all of which came in the first half. Despite scoring just seven points on Wednesday night, Lauren Griffith led all players with 10 rebounds and Kathleen Mathias would dish out a game-high eight assists with her six points before fouling out.

The Spartans have just two home contests remaining, beginning on Saturday for Alumni Day against Luther College beginning at 2 p.m.
