Women's Basketball Drop Two Games in California

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The University of Dubuque women's basketball team enjoyed the warmth of southern California over the holidays, but found the comnpetition tough on the courts. UD opened with a loss to Pacific University (Ore.) Boxers on Sunday Dec. 29 by a 64-81. Tabria Thomas led the Spartans in the loss to Pacific with 19 points and six rebounds. Miah Smith owned the boards in rebounding with 17 grabs. Kennedy Litvinoff added 13 points and seven assists. UD sank 18-50 shot attempts (36%), shot a chilly 3-13 from beyond the three point arc (23.1%), and were 22-36 at the free throw line (61.1%).
On Monday Dec. 30, the Spartans battled hosts UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs and lost 54-80. Just two Spartans would find double-digit scoring. Jaden Kelley and Alli Bailey would both finish with 10 points. UD was 18-51 from the field (35.3%), 2-10 from the three point area (20%), and struggled at the free throw line making just 16-29 attempts (55.2%).
UD (4-7 overall) return back to the Midwest in the new year to face #6-ranked Wartburg College Knights on Han. 4 in Waverly, Iowa with tip-off scheduled for 2 p.m.

UC Santa Cruz closes out the year 2019 with the New Year's Classic December 28-30
Saturday and Sunday's games will be played at Cabrillo College in Aptos before reverting to Kaiser Permanente Arena for the finale on Monday.
