Volleyball Wins Home Opener Over Vikings

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque volleyball team opened their home season on Wednesday night and improved to 5-0 overall after collecting the 3-1 victory over the Augustana College Vikings by set scores of 25-16, 25-21, 17-25, 25-23.
A balanced trio of Spartans ended with double digit kills: Darby Hawtrey led with 12 kills, Kara Wright had 11, and Grace Hintze finished with 10. Kate Messino tallied 29 set assists and a pair of service aces. Rylee Andresen led blocking with three solo blocks. UD collected 56 digs and ended the evening with a .161 hitting percentage.
The Spartans continue play this weekend at Augsburg University Invitational on Sept. 6-7. The Spartans will return home at the end of September when they host the River City Classic on Sept. 27-28.

TOURNAMENT DETAILS
FORMAT: 3 out of 5 games. 2018 NCAA rules apply to all matches.
WARM-UP: 4-4-5-5 format will be used for each match. Teams will be allowed a minimum of 30 minutes warm-up before their match.
START OF PLAY: All matches will start no earlier than the designated time the first time each team plays in a day. The second match of the day for each team may start earlier if the coaches of both teams agree to do so and if the officials are available.
AWARDS: A coach nominated all-tournament team will be selected.
CONCESSIONS: Concessions will be available. Please keep coolers outside of the gym.
