Volleyball Sweeps Norse at Home

BOX SCORE vs. Luther Norse

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque volleyball team captured their first league win on Wednesday night with a 3-0 sweep of the Luther College Norse on Jon Davison Court. The Spartans captured the first set 25-18, went into extras in the second set, but won 27-25, and won the match with a 25-19 final set score.

The Spartans offense was split by the duo of Kara Wright and Darby Hawtrey who would finish with 18 and 14 kills respectively. UD ended the night hitting .288 committing 13 attack errors. Kate Messino had 44 set assists and 14 digs. Defensively UD had 73 digs and finished with five Spartans in double digit digs. Hanna Horsfield led with 16, Grace Hintze had 15, Messino 14, Wright 12, and Grace Strawser 11. Wright and Rylee Andresen both collected two block solos and each had an assisted block. 

The Spartans held the visiting Norse to .122 hitting percentage.

UD travels to face Wheaton College and North Central College in Naperville, Ill. this weekend and will not return home until Oct. 18 when they host Marian University at 7:30 p.m. in Stoltz Sports Center during Homecoming Week.
