Volleyball Rides Winning Streak Into Postseason Play

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The University of Dubuque volleyball team will begin their defense of their American Rivers Conference Tournament Championship, as they host Buena Vista in the first round of the 2019 A-R-C Tournament at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night.

UD wrapped up the regular season with a 19-10 record and a 5-3 mark in the conference to earn the third seed after winning tie-breakers over Nebraska Wesleyan and Coe. The Spartans got off to a slow start in conference play, dropping their first two matches, but have rallied to win five of their final six against conference foes and enter the tournament on a five match win streak, which include three conference wins.

The Beavers earned the sixth and final spot in the conference tournament with a conference record of 3-5. In the lone regular season matchup between UD and Buena Vista, the Beavers swept the Spartans in straight sets in Storm Lake. The Beavers are led by Sydney McLaren who has registered a team-high 316 kills with a hitting percentage of .228.

Heading into the postseason, UD leads in nearly every statistical category over Buena Vista, highlighted with the Spartans sitting at the top of the leaderboard when it comes to opponents hitting percentage. UD has limited opponents to a hitting percentage of just .132, the best in the conference, meanwhile the Beavers sit in the middle of the pack in sixth with a percentage of .167.
