Volleyball Cruises On Senior Night

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque volleyball team made quick of the Marian University Sabres on Friday night, 3-0 (25-17, 25-9, 25-17). The Spartans honored their five seniors prior to the contest. 

In each set, the Spartans opened up with at least a 4-0 lead. Holding a 5-4 leading in the first set, UD scored eight of the next nine points to pull away with the Sabres never getting within six points again in the set. The second set was never in question as UD scored the first five and at one point scoring 14 out of 16 to take the set 25-9 and a comanding 2-0 lead. 

UD put the third set away early, racing out to a 7-0 start on their way to a 25-17 set win to take the match 3-0 with no drama. The Spartans never trailed at any point in the match and the two teams were never tied besides at 0-0 to begin each set.

On Senior Night, it was the two seniors up top that led the UD offense with Kara Wright and Rylee Andresen each having a game-high 12 kills. Fellow senior Grace Strawser held down the back end for the Spartans, coming up with a game-high 23 digs and three service aces.

The Spartans limited the Marian offense to a lowly hitting percentage of .026 and had six solo blocks. 

The Spartans travel to Madison, Wis. on Tuesday, Oct. 22nd to take on the Edgewood Eagles at 7 p.m.
