Track & Field Men Finish 3rd, Women 4th at A-R-C Championships

Decorah, Iowa - The University of Dubuque track and field teams closed out the American Rivers Conference Championships on Saturday, with the UD men placing third with 88 team points and the women fourth with 78.5 team points.

Colfay Pointer helped lead the Spartans to their third place finish as Pointer grabbed points in three different events. Pointer would finish second in the 400m (48.53), fourth in the 200m dash (22.37) and was a leg in fourth place finishing 4x400 relay (3:23.33), along with Street, Anderson and Burchfield.

In the weight throw, the Spartans picked up 14 points as Aidan Carr would finish as runner-up (55-05.75), Colton Youngren took home fifth (55-02.00) and Clayton Hahn grabbed 7th (51-06.25). The Spartans also earn multiple place winners in both the long jump and triple jump. Rei’Shaun Spires jumped to a fourth place finish in the triple (43-07.75) and eighth in the long (21-04.25). Maurice Cushion-Lewis joined him in the long jump, finishing three spots ahead in fifth after a top jump of 22-00.75), while Jeremiah Steed was right behind him in fifth in the triple. 

Also earning points on Saturday for UD was Mark Biechler with a fifth place finish in the mile (4:21.07), Jeremiah Steed finishing 8th in the 55m dash, and Tyler Fowler closing the heptathlon in sixth.

Alison Beeman continues to make her mark as one of the best runners in program history, taking home the title in the 200m dash (24.47) and third in the 55m dash (7.126), while also tying for fifth in the high jump (5-00.25). 

Ya’Mia Ailes-Primes joined Beeman as a place winner in each of the 55m dash and 200m dash, as the sophomore finished fourth in the 55m (7.18) and third in the 200m (25.53).

In the 400m, it was UD’s Olivia Costley who would race to a second place finish, circling the track in 57.30. The other place winners for the Spartans include Alyssa Skrove (4th place, triple jump, 36-04.75), Caroline Ferguson (4th place, weight throw, 55-00.25) and Demetria Johnson (7th place, long jump, 16-05.25).

The 4x400 relay team of Costley, Heather Muntz, Abby Smith and Beeman capped the day on a high note with a first place finish in a facility record 3:58.82 facility record

The Spartans will now take on last chance meets. Heading to the UW-Platteville Last Chance on Friday, Mar. 6th and Wartburg Last Chance on Saturday, March 7th.
