Dec 16, 2019

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The United Soccer Coaches announced the Scholar All-Region teams on Monday, with Victoria Roethler being named First Team All-North/Central Region, Carissa Brown second team and Alexa Martin third team.

To be eligible for scholar all-region honors, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher through their career and start at least 50% of their games.

Victoria Roethler (Cedar Rapids, Iowa), who was already named First Team All-American Rivers Conference and United Soccer Coaches First Team All-North Region, now earns another first team honor selection. While producing on the field, Roethler also produced off the field with a grade point average of 3.67, while majoring in physical education teaching K-12. In her junior season, she posted eight shutouts, the most among all American Rivers Conference goalkeepers.

Carissa Brown continues to rack up awards. The junior from Oswego, Illinois and two-time All-Conference selection picked up second team scholar honors with a cumulative grade point average of 3.92 and majoring in criminal justice. Brown, who has been a mainstay on the Spartan backline over her three seasons, helped limit opponents to 167 shots, 56 less shots than the Spartans took in 2019.

Alexa Martin capped her brilliant career with third team scholar honors for the north/central regions. Martin, who hails from Cedar Rapids, Iowa and majors in human health science and a GPA of 3.80. Martin set a school-record for assists in 2019, dishing out 12, which was good enough for the second most in the conference.

Roethler, Brown and Martin were three of the five student-athletes from the American Rivers Conference to earn Scholar All-North/Region honors.
