Men's Soccer Stumbles On Road

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The University of Dubuque men's soccer team took the road on Tuesday night, traveling to Illinois Wesleyan, where they fell fell to IWU, 3-1.

How It Happened
-Illinois Wesleyan hopped on the board first in the 25th minute when IWU’s Donovan Malone sent shot into the lower left corner to put UD in a 1-0 deficit.
-In the 37th minute, Brandon White prevented a second Illinois Wesleyan goal after the ball with being headed around in the box, White tipped it out to avoid damage.
-Shortly after in the 41st, White made another spectacular save, going full extension dive to his right to keep the ball out the net, taking the Spartans into the half down just 1-0.
-UD was outshot 9-4 in the first half. UD’s first three shots were blocked before Roody Joinvil finally got a shot on net in the 32nd minute.
-Illinois Wesleyan’s pressure continued in the second half, in the 67th minute with the score still sitting at 1-0, a ball squirted past White but luckly for the Spartans a defender was there to clear the ball out.
-The Spartan defense could only withstand the IWU attack for so much longer before another goal which came in the 73rd minute to make it 2-0.
-However, the Spartans would not go quietly. Joel Johansson would get UD back within one goal when he went low and center to find the back of the net in the 83rd minute.
-UD would threaten again in the final seconds, getting a corner kick with 45 seconds left, but Illinois Wesleyan stopped any scoring threat from UD and turned it into a fast break and converted for one final goal to make it 3-1.
