WHITTIER, Calif. - The University of Dubuque men's lacrosse team traveled out west to California for spring break, where they fell victim to Whittier College on Monday night, 19-4.

Whittier jumped out of the gate with two goals in the first five minutes to put UD behind the eight ball early. The Spartans would respond in a big way, beginning with a Zach Schmitt goal midway through the first. Tanner Weis would follow that up with a goal of his own 50 seconds later and just 17 seconds after that, Andrew Wagner found the back of the net to suddenly give UD the 3-2 lead with 6:12 to play in the opening frame.

However, after the flurry of goals for the Spartans, Whittier would rattle off the final seven goals of the first half and 17 of the final 18 goals for the game to hand UD the 19-4 road loss. The lone Spartan goal after the first three was Zach Schmitt's second goal of the contest and the first goal of the second half for either team.

Four Spartans found the back of the net against the Poets, with Zach Schmitt recording two, with Tanner Weis and Andrew Wagner each scoring one.

Ryan Gartner hauled in 14 saves in 60 minutes in the net.

The Spartans now travel to Denver, Colorado to play Johnson and Wales at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 14th.
