Men's Basketball Open Season with Victory over Finlandia

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque Spartans men's basketball shot over 55% from the field on their opening night to collect their first victory of the 2019-20 season with a 112-73 win over the Finlandia University Lions.
A very balanced scoring attack with Micth Burger leading with 16 points, trailed by Peter Ragen with 15, Henry Thompson with 11 and Cade Daugherty with 10. Four other Spartans would finish with nine points. UD sank 37-67 field goals, were 12-26 from beyone the three point arc (46.2%), and made 26-34 free throw attempts (76.5%). The Spartans defense held the visiting Lions to a chilly 11-42 from the three point arc (26.2%). Avery Butler and Patrick Mayfield would both finish with a pair of blocks in the win. Burger and Ragen would both lead in rebounding with seven each.
Sixteen Spartans saw action in the season opener and thirteen would finish with points in the scoring column. UD will continue on Tuesday, Nov. 12 when they host Iowa Wesleyan University Tigers on Jon Davison Court in Stoltz Sports Center at 7 p.m.
