Men's Basketball Beat Dutch With Strong Second Half

PELLA, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team trailed by 10 points in the opening half of action 35-45. After an inspired halftime speech by head coach Robbie Sieverding, the Spartans exited the locker room and outscored the host Central College Dutch 56-37 to capture the American Rivers Conference tilt 91-82.

Five Spartans would finish the night scoring in double digits: Avery Butler (16 pts/12 rbs.), Carter Stevens (16 pts.), Mitch Burger (15 pts.), Dylan Hundley (13 pts.), and Peter Ragen (13 pts.).

The Spartans made 31-72 shots attempts (43.1%), made 15-40 three point attempts (37.5%) and 14-19 (73.7%). UD's defense held the Dutch to just 5-28 three point attempts (17.9%), Central sank 31-66 from the floor (47%).

UD will continue their road schedule when they travel to Buena Vista University on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 4 p.m. The Beavers lost to Loras 83-90 on Wednesday night in Storm Lake causing a battle for second place with four teams battling for the spot.
