Cross Country Faces Stiff Competition at Bradley Intercollegiate

PEORIA, Ill. - The University of Dubuque cross country teams went up against runners from all levels of the NCAA at the Bradley University Intercollegiate on Friday night, with the women finishing 16th and the men placing seventh.

The women's three mile run began the event, where Isabella Mazzanti would pace the Spartans with a time of 20:42.3 to place 105th out of 214 total runners. Freshman Stacey Kloft was not far behind the senior Mazzanti, coming in just six seconds after to post a time of 20:48.4 and an 108th place finish. Lucy Syverson, Mackenzie Helgemoe and Bailey Hammerand would all finish within 22 seconds of each other with times of 21:11.8, 21:32.0 and 21:33.5, respectively. This was the Spartans first three mile race of the season. 

The men ran an 8k on Friday afternoon, with Mark Biechler and Joseph Tobin leading the pack for the Spartans. Biechler finished as the top finisher for the Spartans for the third time in three events with a time of 27:43.2 to place 48th. Tobin also gained a top 50 finish, as he was just a second behind Biechler after crossing the line in 27:44.8. Tyler Cernohous was not far behind the top two UD runners, running the 8k in 27:55.6 and finishing in 53rd. Tavian Rumple and Jayden Oshirak rounded out the top five UD runners, placing 61st and 63rd, respectively, with times of 28:14.2 and 28:20.2 

The Spartans will take next weekend off before traveling to the UW-Eau Claire Blu Gold Invitational on October 4th beginning at 4:15 p.m.
