LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Dubuque baseball team opened the 2020 season in Louisville, Kentucky, where they were quieted by the Spalding Eagles, 8-0.

How It Happened
-The Spartans got off to a shaky start, allowing the Spalding Eagles to plate two runs in the bottom half of the first off of just one hit, to put UD in hole early.
-Justin Jensen recorded the first base knock of the season for the Spartans in the top of the fourth inning with a two-out single but left stranded.
-After Spalding plated one run in the fifth, the Spartans had a rally going in the top of the sixth as the first two batters reached, however, the Spartans were not able to get any of the runners past second base.
-The Eagles broke the game open with three runs in the bottom of the sixth, and one in each of the seventh and eighth innings to limit any chance of a Spartan comeback.
-In the ninth, Jensen and Kellen Mitchell both singled to begin the inning, but the Eagles put out the fire again to keep UD off the board.
