Anderson Honored as All-Conference

Mar 26, 2020

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The American Rivers Conference announced the the 2019-20 Wrestling All-Conference honorees on Thursday afternoon, with Zarik Anderson being the lone Spartan wrestler on the list.

The junior from Rockwell, Texas posted a 20-12 record for the 2019-20 season. At the NCAA Division III Lower Midwest Regional, Anderson won his first match before dropping his second match, losing to Loras' Eddie Smith and falling into the consolation bracket. Anderson would claw his way back into contention, winning three straight matches to get into the third place match for a rematch against Smith. Anderson would fall to Smith once again, 12-3, just missing out on a spot in the national tournament, however, he secured all-conference honors in the process.

The 30-member team is composed of the top three A-R-C place-winners at the NCAA Division III Lower Midwest Regional Championships. The wrestler(s) who finished highest at the NCAA Division III Championships are normally deemed A-R-C Most Valuable Performer(s), while the Freshman and Coach of the Year awards are voted on by the league's head coaches. This season, with no NCAA Championships due to COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Most Valuable Performer was nominated and voted on by the league's head coaches.
