#25 Spartans Fall on Senior Night to #5 Coe

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque wrestling team took two out of the first three matches on Friday night, but ultimately the Coe College Kohawks showed why there were fifth ranked team in the country as the Spartan were upended, 30-15.
The match began at 141, where Dakotah Unpingco had a workman like 7-0 victory, racking up 2:40 of riding time to get the Spartans out to a 3-0 lead. After a Coe fall at 149, UD’s Jessy Diaz was on the verge of getting pinned in the opening 60 seconds at 157, but Diaz pulled a quick reversal to get Coe’s Cole Erickson on his back and quickly pinned Erickson to give UD the 9-6 lead.
The Kohawks would win the next four matches to vault ahead 21-5. At 285, ninth ranked Darryl Aiello, made quick of sixth ranked Kaleb Reeves, pinning Reeves in just 32 seconds to give the Spartans a chance heading into the final two matches, trailing just 21-15. However, the Kohawks would go on to take the final two matches of the night to drop the Spartans, 30-15.
The Spartans have a quick turnaround, hosting Nebraska Wesleyan at 11 a.m. It is the final match before the NCAA Division III Central Regionals on Feb. 29th and Mar. 1st.
