CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The University of Dubuque softball team after a day delay were finally able to begin A-R-C play on Sunday. The start to their conference season didn't finish the way they were hoping against #11-ranked Coe College Kohawks. UD would jump out to leads early in both games, but lost game one by a 2-5 score after being held to just three hits in the loss. In game two, the day would continue into extra innings and once again the Spartans would fall short by a score of 4-5.

The opener would give the fans a pitching duel as both pitchers in the game would be effecient. Kayla Breunig took the loss and faced just 27 Kohawks and struck out five and allowed just two walks. The Kohawks would face 28 Spartans and would strike out 11. UD left five runners on base and both squads committed one error.

In game two, UD scored four runs off six hits. Kaylin Featheringill would finish the game 3-5 at the plate with a double and two stolen bases. Lexi Schmidt suffered the loss after facing 40 batters, striking out one and walking two in 8.2 innings of work. Schmidt and Featheringill would both grab a double and the Spartans would leave eight runners on base.

It's a busy start in April as the Spartans continue conference play on Tuesday, April 5 vs. Simpson College Storm at 2 p.m. and playing host to the Wartburg College Knights on Saturday, April 6 at 1 p.m.
