DECORAH, Iowa - The University of Dubuque softball team keep their hopes alive for a conference tournament spot with a sweep of #13-ranked Luther College Norse. The Spartans won the first game 1-0 and pitcher Abby McBee allowed just one hit in eight innings. Game two would be extended into extra innings as well with the Spartans winning 5-3 in nine innings. UD entered the day one win away from tying the school record for wins in a season (old record of 22 set in 2014), after the sweep head coach Jeff Lamb now owns the school record with 23 victories.

"We played tough and McBee pitched about as well as anyone could," commented head coach Jeff Lamb. "Out team played stellar defense and came up with some outstanding hits and plays which kept pressure on them."

The record setting day also included Kaylin Featheringill who took over the top spot in the UD record book with her 57 hit of the season (old record of 55  by Shawna Dole set in 2011). She also now holds the total bases in a season record with her 80th at Luther (old record of 75 set in 2011). Featheringill leads the Spartans in hitting with a batting average of .419 with 20 RBI's. Brandy Heraty added to her runs batted in for the season school record with her 41st on Wednesday (old record was 32 set in 2007). UD also has set record for stolen bases in a season with 54 in 2019 (old mark of 51 in 2006).

UD scored one run with five hits in the opening game and held the Norse to no runs on a lone hit. The Spartans committed just one error all day while the host Norse committed two in game one. McBee would end the day with a pair of victories and improved to 6-0 this season with an 1.52 ERA.

The Spartans continue the American Rivers Conference regular season this weekend when they host Nebraska Wesleyan University on Senior Day. Game is scheduled for Saturday, April 27, but inclement weather is expected in the Dubuque area on Saturday, so stay alert for any schedule changes.
