Men's Soccer Falls 4-2 in Physical Battle

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque men’s soccer team dropped their home opener to Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon, 4-2.

How It Happened
-The Spartans wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. A cross into the box found the head of Chris Rigby and floated over to Nik Getzinger, who headed into the back of the net.
-Rigby continued to control the attack for UD. Rigby sent a corner skipping into the box and Cameron Scott settled the ball and sent it past the goalie to put UD ahead 2-0.
-With time winding down before halftime, Illinois Wesleyan got loose on a break and sent a cross into the box where it was headed in to cut UD’s lead to 2-1 heading into the break.
-Midway through the second half, UD’s goalie Brandon White punched out the ball on a scramble in fron of the net, it happened to find the foot of a Titan who sent a rocket into the net to even the score.
-In the 77th minute, Illinois Wesleyan grabbed their first lead of the day when they converted on a corner kick opportunity.
-With the Spartans pushing up and attacking to attempt to even the game late, Illinois Wesleyan got a counter attack for a fast break goal to seal the game.
